No Health Insurance

A young family was in distress. The father was out of work and they were behind in their mortgage payments and quickly running out of food. Several months earlier they had dropped their health insurance, and now their youngest child need to see a doctor. As a first step we encouraged the family to contact their food shelf for needed food supplies.

We then notified a Community Health Worker and asked her to contact this family. Next we contacted a local agency to help with the mortgage foreclosure and asked if this family would qualify for assistance and was assured they would. We called the family with the information we had collected.

Several weeks later, the situation had stabilized and the father was back at work. Their young daughter had received service from a local low-cost clinic, and the financial assistance had forestalled the mortgage foreclosure. The local food shelf provided food for the family.

We made a difference in the lives of this family.
